Orthotics

Underwood Chiropractic provides custom orthotics to solve many foot, ankle, knee, hip, and low back conditions experienced by individuals. Most people understand that foot pain and foot conditions such as plantar fascitis can be related to problems with the arches. However, many don’t realize that knee painhip pain, and low back pain can also be related to improper function of the feet. When the arch of a foot “drops” or the foot becomes more flat, it puts abnormal forces into the foot as well as the ankle, knee, hip, and low back. If one of your arches has dropped more than the other, walking will be similar to driving a car with a flat or low tire on one side: extra vibration and stress will be experienced throughout the structure.

Depending on the type and condition of your arches, Dr. Underwood will be able to recommend the ideal type of shoes and, if needed, off the shelf or custom orthotics to avoid or heal injuries. If custom orthotics are indicated by the examination, a cast will of the feet will be made and sent to Sole Supports. Sole Supports will analyze the foot cast and create a unique custom orthotic for each foot with the goal of reducing abnormal forces coming up through the joints of the legs and low back. Turnaround time from placing the order to receiving the orthotics is usually two weeks.
